Just When We Think We Are Smart…

Let’s be clear, I am in no way implying I am smart. I am not. I am witty, at best. This is about those moments that we ALL have gone through. I am focusing on those of us who have faith in God. Just when we think we are smart, the devil is only around the corner, and you never know what he’s going to do.

Today’s reading is from 2 Chronicles 6:1-21, and it was about the moment, it sounded like, of the grand opening of the First Temple. Solomon was leading the Israelites in celebrating the completion of the Temple, and he was praising God. It was a glorious moment, and Solomon was very proud of what he has achieved. But we all know what comes “next”. He would fail God so miserably after a long life of wise living.

Coincidentally, something big was on the news. Tomorrow, January 4, would be the end of life for Blackberry OS. Any Blackberry that has not or is unable to convert to Android OS will cease to work tomorrow. There were days when Blackberry was the best OS there was. It was efficient in operation and data usage. Then, as it was being squeezed out by Android and iOS, but they had an out: Blackberry 10 OS.

The problem was the timing of the BlackBerry 10 OS. It boasted to be revolutionary, and it turned out to be all that. Announced Fall 2012 that they are coming out with their first full touch screen phone, which relies on the launching of the new OS. I know people as part of the OS project. When in November they announced that the launch will not take place until 2013, after the Christmas season.

I told someone I knew working on the launch that they had to send out a developer version to influencers so that they can sell how great BlackBerry 10 was for them. He said, “BlackBerry 10 is the best out there and because of that, they will wait for it.” I told him, “no they won’t, because they won’t wait for an unknown. Nobody knows how great it is because only the development team does!” He refused to listen. The rest was history. No, that became the beginning of the end for BlackBerry. The OS basically died in 2015, lasting only 2 ½ years. And now, as they are shutting down the server, the OS will no longer work.

BlackBerry was like Solomon but as their heads filled with their success, thinking they are invincible and the world would circle around them. So, they doomed themselves when they made that fateful decision that they can do anything and things will work out exactly how they imagine.

Like I said, just when we think we are smart….
