Cancel Culture is Nothing New

Amazon, Apple and Google have ganged up on Parler and cancelled its existence. That kind of practice is nothing new. Now, I am in no way trying to put Parler on some sort of holy grail. No, not at the least way plausible, but when people are fearful of the unknown that threatens their own narrative, people have been known to go for the extreme to silence that voice.

Matthew 2:13-23

After the wise men had gone, an angel from the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Get up! Hurry and take the child and his mother to Egypt! Stay there until I tell you to return, because Herod is looking for the child and wants to kill him.”

That night, Joseph got up and took his wife and the child to Egypt, where they stayed until Herod died. So the Lord’s promise came true, just as the prophet had said, “I called my son out of Egypt.”

When Herod found out that the wise men from the east had tricked him, he was very angry. He gave orders for his men to kill all the boys who lived in or near Bethlehem and were two years old and younger. This was based on what he had learned from the wise men.

So the Lord’s promise came true, just as the prophet Jeremiah had said,

“In Ramah a voice was heard
crying and weeping loudly.
Rachel was mourning
for her children,
and she refused
to be comforted,
because they were dead.”

After King Herod died, an angel from the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph while he was still in Egypt. The angel said, “Get up and take the child and his mother back to Israel. The people who wanted to kill him are now dead.”

Joseph got up and left with them for Israel. But when he heard that Herod’s son Archelaus was now ruler of Judea, he was afraid to go there. Then in a dream he was told to go to Galilee, and they went to live there in the town of Nazareth. So the Lord’s promise came true, just as the prophet had said, “He will be called a Nazarene.”

Herod was so afraid that his kingdom is in danger that he has left no room for error. He killed every possible opponent to the future of his kingdom. He doesn't care if innocent lives are affected as long as his legacy is spared.

Back in high school, I took a class that is on the Media, and the one topic we spent the whole term on is “is Newer always better?” Because that seems to be the focus of marketing back then. “New and improved!” was the biggest selling point for almost every product out there. It still seems to be the “thing”.

The Progressives pride themselves to be the latest and greatest, and they see anyone on the conservative side to be a threat. They have been using every tactic plausible to suppress the political right. So much so that they have grown to believe that the opposing voice has no place to exist and, in order for the future to be “bright” that voice should cease to exist.

Parler is not going to be the last. The excuse of the Progressive? “The terrorists are using Parler to plan a coup against America!” “Parler refuses to regulate people, so they should be shut down!” “The people on there refuse to be more accepting of people who are different, so they must go.”

The problem? They fail to recognize they have become that very “thing” they accuse people of, and they refuse to see it that way. Does that not remind you of Genesis when Adam and Eve faced God after they ate the Fruit of the Knowledge of Good and Evil? Now, THAT is more like the sign of the end of time as we know it. Tribulation is coming or has already come. Lord have mercy.
