Session 05 - Murder? Me?
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.' But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, 'You fool!' will be liable to the hell of fire. So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.”Matthew 5:21-26 ESV
Of course, no one in the right mind would want to commit murder, but Jesus wants us to dig deeper. Even if we are simply get angry at and want to insult another individual, are just as liable to receive judgement as if we have already killed that person. Why so serious? Some might argue that it is less serious than it sound, because Jesus must have been referring to the extreme reaction, and not just every reaction of the two; however, there is no evidence of such distinction, as a matter of fact, when a person upset you enough for you to have those feelings, it is very likely the thought of preferring the "offending individual" to have died. Thus the "murder charge".Having said that, it is not easy to NOT having those feelings when you face a hateful person who wants to spread their hate with fictional argument and strong accusation. It get worse when those individual are brother and sisters. The situation is on-going, and some of whom I had to block them because they attacked me on Facebook as my opinion does not align with theirs, even when I have Scripture as proof yet they are set in their way.Nonethe less, it does not give me the license to use those strong words that I used that COULD unjustifiably shamed or devalued another person. They are wrong does not give me the right to do wrong. This is not going to be easy. Lord have mercy.
