Session 01
Matthew 4:23-25; 5:1-3 English Standard Version (ESV)23 And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people. 24 So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them. 25 And great crowds followed him from Galilee and the Decapolis, and from Jerusalem and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.
5:1 Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him. 2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: 3“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
How would you describe Jesus' actions if you were a reporter for the Galilee Gazette in 30 AD?
Today in the Galilee region, something amazing took place. A relatively unknown man named Jesus, son of Joseph and Mary of Nazareth, formerly of Bethleham, came back to Galilee today. He has been going from town to town first in the Decapolis, and ended in the Galilee. He spent time in every synagogues he passed by, teaching people about the goodnews of the Kingdom, and was healing people.
Even people from Syria came to hear him speak and hoping for a miracle. I have tracked down a few of those followers from Syria, and tomorrow I will be interview a few of them to hear what they have to say about Jesus and his message.
What do you hope to discover about Jesus and his teaching as you join the crowd and listen?
What so special about this Jesus that set him apart from other Rabbi? He is a Jewish Rabbi carrying a message about God's Kingdom for the Jews, what makes it attractive to people from Syria? Was it something he say? Was it the miracles? Do we need to do anything?
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
